Salt is the quiet enemy of an island golfer. It hangs in the air near the shore and settles on every surface.
Raw carbon steel is especially vulnerable. Within weeks, a bag kept in a humid garage can show rust spots on the face. Plated and satin finishes resist it better but are not immune.
The routine
After every round near the sea, rinse the heads in fresh water, dry them with a towel and leave the bag open for an hour. It takes five minutes.
If you can, wipe the heads with a light film of oil before storing them for more than a week.
